SPRING WORKOUT
.
Hey playas,
I know you’re all itching to start sharpening your ultimate skills over our month long hiatus. Whether you want to be on A or B team, we want to see everybody improve as much as they can over the break. With that said, here’s a list of workouts and activities:
1.) Play pick-up -if you’re in Irvine check out the link on the webpage for pickup, there’s lots of it all week. If you’re going back home, gather your friends and family and start up a game if you don’t know of any pickup in your area
2.) 30 minutes throwing + 2 minutes of fakes in front of a mirror. Practice regular throws, I/Os, O/Is for flick and backhand. Don’t just “throw”, PRACTICE throwing. Really focus on improving your throws one step at a time
3.) Track Workout:
- -warm-up: 1/2 mile jog, full plyos and stretching (everything we do at practice), don’t skip out on this part, footwork and form is extremely important for running technique. For the sprints, focus on exploding out of the first 4 steps
- -6 40-yard sprints (30 seconds rest in-between), use your arms to carry your momentum, run on your toes
- - 6 5-10-5 yard shuttle runs: start off from each foot, also practice turning over each shoulder and exploding out from your turn.
- -3 10-30-10 yard shuttle runs (100 yards total for each): take longer rests in-between
- -cooldown + stretching
If you want to be on A-team, we are expecting you to do 3 activities total/week with one of them being the track workout. If you have other ideas for improving your game, do that also (throwing with your dog, climbing stairs, biking, etc) Ex: went to pick-up, track workout, lifted weights for forearms to get more snap on the disk. We want to know what you all have done over break, write down what you do to keep track of it (going by the honor system, you’re only cheating yourself otherwise).
Next quarter, the teams will be managed differently than they have in the past. Everybody has the possibility of switching between teams. If you are a superstar veteran, but start slacking off, you can be moved down to B-team. If you are placed on B-team and want to move up to A-team, you can move up by showing your skills, dedication, and work ethic at practice and tournaments. Prove your dedication to the coaches and captains, prove it to Nightlife, but most of all, prove it to yourself. I promise you, this game only gets more fun the more you improve. ”Get better everyday, in every way” -sticky note on my bathroom mirror courtesy of KG.
