Officers Positions Available, Applicants, and Personal Statements: (1 vote)
- Nightlife Club President:
o Kerrick Ryan, Its Kerrick and I am writing to inform you that I would like to apply for the position of President for next year. My position this year was really not much of a commitment outside of welcome week, and I would like a little more responsibility. I know that I am qualified to carry out either of these jobs. I possess above average communication skills that would be very useful at the President position. I would need some help contacting the necessary people to complete my job correctly. I would definitely be committed to the position for the entire year. I hope to help serve the club for years to come.
- Nightlife Club Vice President:
o Keegan Carol, Throughout this year, I have shown my dedication to the Nightlife Ultimate team. I did this by attending every tournament that I could and missed only a handful of practices. I am a big fan of how are club is full of friendly guys who are at the same time, passionate about ultimate. I respect the sport and my peers on the Nightlife club and would like to help facilitate this friendly environment that we have and continue to show my dedication to our club by serving as its Vice President.
- Nightlife Club Treasurer:
o Tim Ryan: I would like to apply for Treasurer. I would like to do this job because I am good at “balancing budgets, setting dues, control spending, and Arc Relations.” I am a Math Major so I got this shit. I can also do this job for the year. Thanks, Finn
o Christian Jaureguy: Hello all, I would like to run for treasurer, because I like numbers, I am used to managing budgets and think I can do a good job with it. Yes I would be committed to do the position for the entire year. Vote for me!
- Nightlife Club Tournament Director did not have any applicants and therefore will be filled by the runner up in the election for Treasurer.
Captain Applicants, Years with Nightlife, and Personal Statement: (3 votes)
Eric Salazar (2nd): I know I am a strong player and have a deep understanding of the game. I’m very dedicated to this team. I rarely miss practice and have been to almost every track workout. I want to improve my game and I try to do anything I can to make it happen. Leading by example has always been my preferred choice of leadership. I’ve been a captain on baseball teams before and I know I will never be the most vocal leader, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. I am always trying to think of ways to improve our offense or help D-line after we make mistakes. As for areas I can improve on, I would say that I need to be a little more spirited. I get frustrated when I or the team is not playing well. I try to stay positive, but I’d be lying if I said I’d never found myself concerned about the quality of our play. I’ve also been working on being more vocal as I’ve always considered that a weakness as well. At sectionals, I found myself leading D-line after Mowgs went down and enjoyed the role and found myself giving advice much more frequently than normal. I want to be captain because I am dedicated to this team and feel that I have earned the respect of my teammates through both my play and understanding of the game. I will play as hard as I can, something I feel that I demonstrated on Sunday at sectionals. I took maybe two D points off all weekend and played as hard as I could knowing that it would take everything we could to make regionals. I have now played two years on the A-team and got to play alongside and learn from Miller, Stig, and Evan. Also, I feel like I am settling into my role as a D-line handler and, as of right now, D-line does not have a captain. I love playing defense and feel that I can properly lead a strong D-line. Last year, we had the superstars, but the supporting cast wasn’t deep enough. This year, we didn’t have the superstars, but had a strong, albeit young, core of steadily improving players. Next year, I feel that we will have the capability to be a much stronger team. Our core will have played for at least two full years, excluding any time spent with club teams this summer. I want us to be a much more dedicated team, at least the A-team. We can have harder practices and really strive to be a great team.
Josh Yee (2nd): I believe that my strengths are optimism and a strong work ethic and motivation. I am willing to work my very hardest to reach a goal and will not let anything come between myself and my teammates when trying to reach that goal. Some of the areas where I can see room for growth are a few technical skills as an ultimate player and providing constructive criticism when it is needed. I want to be a captain because I believe that I can effectively help motivate the team and help further the competitiveness of the club by bringing a competitive outlook to the game. I am willing to work hard and hold myself to a high standard in my personal and athletic life, an example that I think would be beneficial to the team as a whole. I believe that I have shown this to the team through my involvement at practices and by my attitude at team events and tournaments. If elected, my vision would be for the team to come together as a competitive group that maintains the same camaraderie and sportsmanship that the Nightlife club has maintained through its years as a club. Ultimately, I would envision my ultimate goal as reaching Regionals and performing well against the best teams in our region to represent our school and our team with excellence.
Arl Hernandez (3rd): Sup fellas. We all know there were problems this past year. Mainly communication between members of the leadership as well as the communication between the leadership and the team. I’m running for the captain position to fix this. I have 2 years of experience being an officer and 3 years of experience as a player so I know how to both talk to the officers and how to handle team matters with them, and what the officers and members of the team want from captains. As captain I will always communicate with the team as well as the officers in order to make decisions which will benefit the team as a whole and not automatically assume that I as leadership know what’s best for everyone. Another reason I’m running for the captain position is to make this team the best it can be. I am one of the most experienced members on this team; being a member on NightLife for 3 years, playing club both last summer and this upcoming summer, playing pick-up, and playing in multiple Ultimate Frisbee Leagues. With all this experience under my belt I’ve learned numerous offenses and defenses which I believe this team can employ in order to become a force to be reckoned with next year. This team has always been about basic strategy and I believe I can take it to the next level with my experience and knowledge of the game. I could go on more about problems and solutions. But I’m sure you guys don’t want to be reading everyone’s responses. So I’ll end by saying this. If I’m elected I promise to put the team before myself and to communicate with all of you in order to solve any issues within the team. Thanks guys.
Adam Silver (4th): During this year as captain, many things went very well while others did not go as planned, but I have learned a great deal from these experiences and would like to incorporate these insights into next year to better not only myself as a leader, as well as everyone’s ultimate experience. I feel one of my greatest strengths as a leader is handling conflicts and incorporating the team’s desires as much as possible. I wish for the leadership’s decisions to always have the full support of the club. My greatest reason why I want to be captain is to inspire everyone to love the team, club, and game just as much as I do and even more.
Tyler Kenney (3rd): The Club has meant a great deal to me this year. I have worked frivolously as our club’s president and captain, experiencing many humbling rewards as a result. I have watched me and the team change in many astonishing ways. I have been able to be a part of something that has affected my life forever. I love playing for this club more than a lot of the other aspects of my life. That is why I so tirelessly work to make it a better place for every one of you. This year has been eye opening to me as I have come to understand what such a level of commitment really in required. Even though mistakes were made I believe I have been able to show my ability to adapt to the desires of the team after I had quiet two of my jobs. Next year I will be quitting my third job and contributing all of my efforts to using the experience I have gained in my position this year to make UCI the best college team in Orange County. I have learned the importance of playing better and will be improving over the summer as I plan to try out for three of the best Club Ultimate Teams in the region to sharpen my own skill and better represent UCI in the greater ultimate community. I am not reapplying for an officer position because I believe that is too much of a distraction from the purpose of the captain’s responsibilities. I promise to correct my mistakes, use the experience I gained in the past year, better focus my life around the club, and most importantly listen to the team’s opinions and act upon the collective interest of the club.
